Featured Guest Instructor:

Pati Palmer and Marta Alto started their method of tissue-fitting during the 1970s. They have been perfecting it ever since. Pati is also McCall’s Fit Expert and has been designing patterns for them that make fit easier since 1980.
After years of hands-on teaching, Pati and Marta have written the most comprehensive fitting books available, Fit for Real People and Pants for Real People. These books are constantly recommended by sewers on www.patternreview.com. People come from around the world to take their 4-day hands-on fit workshops at the Fabric Depot in Portland, Oregon, their home town.
This slide/lecture class will show you the easiest way to make clothes that fit without needing to take cumbersome measurements. During the two sessions Pati will show you how tissue-fitting takes the guess-work out of fitting fashion on yourself including preparing the tissue, identifying fit problems, and altering patterns to make them fit you properly. She will talk about what good fit is and how to understand the ease you need for various styles and for your fabric choices as well as for your size and personal preferences. During the first class she will focus on the upper body including adjustments for the back, bust, shoulders, width and length, and sleeves.During the second class, she will focus on the bottom half and cover skirts and pants. She will add some sewing techniques important to fit as well, such as zippers, waistbands, jeans, contour waistlines, and no-side-seam pants. She will also bring garments made from her McCall’s patterns.
The cost is $45 for the two 2 ½ – hour sessions. Or, you can come to only session for $25. The perfect follow-up to this class is Marta Alto’s 4-week Fit class. If you can’t come at all, Fabric Depot carries her books: Fit for Real People and Pants for Real People.
